school has officially started

school has officially started

and work and readings are piling up!

but jianyue and i keep telling ourselves that
we should just chill, since everything we take here,
as long as we pass,
it is alright already.

but this mentality is kinda bad eh, think we gotta work a little bit
at least, so that we make the most out of our exchange!

i believe our friends who experienced the other American universities will feel this way: we don't see NTU the same way we used to.

the universities here are extremely beautiful and spacious,
or at least mine is.

and the teachers are really interesting!

i got this basic american government course,
and the teacher uses movies to explain his points
oh gosh it's so engaging and so much less boring!

but don't be late though, i was like 2 minutes late,
and the entire lecture hall was full!

i almost had to sit by the sides, where i can't even copy notes,
but fortunately my sharp eyes noticed an empty seat in the middle of the last row.

and so i squeezed in.. but it was worth it. :D

my assignments are piling up too!
i gotta take a photo of a stranger holding whatever is in his/her pocket
using a DSLR.
and i don't even know how to use it!
yesterday i was such a noob, jianyue ended up teaching me how to shoot photos instead.

but it was so rainy. so we decided to take photos the next day.

anyway i got ALL the courses i wanted :)
happy student!

and i hope i can make it here man!

now gonna rest for a while more before setting off to do my project!

one week in Mizzou

it's Saturday morning again!

i remember last week i was still on the plane on my way to the States,
and now i'm already settling down at my dormitory
almost ready for school

just left with choosing courses!

i hope i get all the courses i wanted
pretty please Mizzou give them to me :D

anyway this one week passed really fast
so many things happened!

we met nice singaporeans Sam, Derrick, Lloyd and Ivan
who said we could call them eveytime we needed help
or their cars.. :P

we met other fellow exchange students from Denmark and Hong Kong!

and they are really smart, i feel insubstantial just talking to them
they know so much..

i have to step out of my little world
into the big one out here
and learn as much as i can :)

the first night here was miserable - our room cards weren't working
and we got locked out of our rooms for more than two hours!

but eventually Anna (a student in charge of all our halls)
managed to move us in to our rooms.

and then i saw this note to Tracy on my side of the noticeboard.

i think Tracy was supposed to stay in my room
but the school may have made a switch!

so here i am in my third storey room with a roomie
called Gabrielle (she calls herself Gabbi).

she hasn't moved in, but she looks like a girl who shares
a same fashion sense as me! her clothes are pretty
shoes too and she puts on makeup!

hope she is nice too!

anyway i got myself an english name
because i don't want anyone to call me Semen
like my English Literature teacher did.

but after testing my chinese name on Americans,
they seem to get it correct at the first try!

COOL :D

anyway i called myself Stella.
cuz the rest was just too used, or not me at all.

my name outside my room!

and about the weather

it was extremely cold the first few days,
got warmer after a while,
before it became cold again.

initially i couldn't do without my beanie,
but now i look like any other locals here,
without beanies too! :D

i love the freedom here -- America is so different!

if you buy something and don't like it,
you can always return it with a full refund.

i'm glad i'm here

in a peaceful, quiet small town
and a beautiful school!

the Journalism school i'd be going to!

It's so different from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information!

O M G it has so much more facilities and intereseting stuff -
more than what a journalism student could ask for

cameras - old school film cameras and the modern ones
two storey library with cute bubbly coloured chairs
huge Mac computers

i wished i was a student here instead!

I'm now blogging in my hotel's toilet

cuz i don't want to wake my roomie up.

we are supposed to meet our school coordinator at 9am
but i woke up after Testa's phone rang.

and i came to Skype, MSN and blog here!

anyway yesterday Jianyue and i took a bus to downtown Kansas City
we wanted to explore the place!

while waiting for the bus, we played snow by our hotel - yippie!
i kinda miss these carefree, young-at-heart days!

however when i alighted from the bus, i started to regret my decision.
town was freaking cold.
or the cold was just everywhere!

the streets were empty, even the locals found it very cold
to come shopping at The Plaza..

i was so cold, i kept going into the shops
and stayed inside

the heater was the one thing i needed most

after i defroze, i went out again!

IT'S FREAKING COLD HERE!

I finally landed at Kansas City Airport last night about 5 plus
after three long flights and loads of waiting time!

Hated the plane rides, because there was little leg space
and entertainment :(

but well, Northwest Airline (NWA) is probably the only plane
that gets us to Kansas City.

but we did not have any yen... :(

When we alighted, it was freaking cold.
Even the Americans were busy hiding their hands in their pockets!
I wore my brown Mango trench coat
but my teeth was still clattering
and inner body shivering!

Even Harbin did not seem as cold...

so we had a quick dinner at the airport - beefy burger!

it was really juicy and nice, with lots of cheese :D
YUMMY!

After a brief dinner at a restaurant,
we took the hotel shuttle bus into Marriot -
the hotel closest to the airport.

I was so happy to see the driver
that we actually tipped him USD20
which i heard is kinda over..
but well, having an angel drive you
to a cosy, warm haven just seemed
to be the best thing during cold times like this..

and not too long after,
Jianyue and i KO-ed to dreamland..

but we jet-lagged..
i can't sleep at 2.54am
so i woke up to snack!

many friends ask if i'm excited about my US trip?

and i really don't know.

i feel like months just flew past,
as i was busy preparing for the trip
and now i have so much to be done here.

i am almost ready to go

maybe left with some last minute shopping
for prawn rolls/pork floss for my
soon-to-be friend in US,
and other important stuff
i cannot do without.

i feel incomplete, yet.

all the loves

this year (as in 2009) had indeed been a roller coaster year for me
- ups and downs, happiness and disappointments,
but after all, i still as blessed as before.

i have really, really great friends around
who care for me and make me so happy!! :D

got to meet some of them this holiday
- jiamin, cuishan, huifen, carol, my CCC gang,
my 7 sisters and 7 fairies gang, the boy boy,
and ah ma! :D

i'm going to take part of you with me to the States
so when i miss you, i'll close my eyes
and think of the fun moments we had together..

new year resolution:
1) be happier and wiser than before
2) joy and peace for everybody!
3) health for everybody!
4) make sure 2010 is a BOOM BOOM year for all of us,

i got so hyped up over my Holga camera,
shooting photos and all of things i find pretty,
so i could quickly use up my roll of film
and get it developed soon.

but my first roll of film failed me.

it got overexposed because i did not roll it
properly before i opened the case.

and so, i hope my second roll of film
would not disappoint me again.

my xmas this year

i read my friend's blog a few days back.

he wondered why people ask him what he was doing for xmas,
but not vesak, deepavali or any other festivals.

he thought this was because xmas was one of the most commercialised religious holidays,
and because of this, xmas lost its meaning and excitement in his heart.

well for me, i don't usually feel anything for any festivals,
because my family and i don't celebrate them too.

but this year i wondered, what xmas meant to me?

and i thought it was the best way to celebrate
true friendship, love and peace.

usually on festivals, i seized the chance to sms friends
i lost contact with, wish my loved ones well
and catch up with friends too!

this year i met my JC CCA mates for dinner on 23rd dec
at ion's swensens,

my secondary school friends for dinner on xmas eve,

attended a xmas celebration at city harvest on xmas day with chings,

and then strolled along singapore river with jinglun at night.

i feel accomplished.

just finished reading 487 pages of the pact by jodi picoult!

i haven't read since ages.

the pact's beginning got me eager to read on,
and the events too,
they got me to continue
page after page,
for the climax and resolution.

the introduction: emily's death

There was nothing left to say.
He covered her body with his, and as she put her arms
around him she could picture him in all his incarnations:
age five, and still blond; age eleven, sprouting; age
thirteen, with the hands of a man. The moon rolled,
sloe–eyed in the night sky; and she breathed in the

And then there was a shot.

i liked the beautiful description of emily's death in the introduction,
one of the few i liked most.

well, emily is quite silly to have thought of suicide,
and made her love chris kill her,
which screwed his life.

he was a straight A student,
a great swimmer with a bright future,
and all because of her selfish wish,
he had to suffer one year in jail.

because of their loss, emily's parents stopped
being best friends with chris's parents,
though the two families were very close to each other
since they became neighbours for two decades.

so one decision made can inflict pain to everyone around the maker,
but many depressed souls do not see that.

we can't say emily is wrong, or stupid,
all we can do is to be there,
or try to, for friends who need a listening ear.

the pact is also the first book i find issues unresolved,
left unsaid. all along i just accepted everything the writer penned.
i do not criticise.

maybe now i'm really reading a book :)

Departures

Just watched 'Departures' while waiting for an email to come in,
and 5pm so i could call somebody.

It's a really nice movie,
it's about how a cellist, after his orchestra went broke,
took on a job accidentally,
to send the departed off,
by cleansing their bodies,
wearing kimonos for them,
and apply make-up for them,
so they would look the best on the journey
towards a new life.

Definitely he faced obstacles and social stigma,
since most people deem these jobs as 'unclean'.
But after you watch it, you'd respect these people
who work for the dead.

There's an interesting line the old boss of this business said,
he loved to prepare food, and made them look really appetising.
He said, "The food is dead, and you make them look beautiful.
You're living, and you eat the dead. Unless you're dead, you eat.
And when you eat, you eat well."

Interesting huh?

And the female lead Hirosue Ryoko took me back to my carefree
Primary 6 days. I used to watch her Japanese show 'Summer Snow'!
I used to watch TV, and then i stopped cuz i had no time.

Miss the old, carefree days man..

Bad romance

Bad romance

For the past two days,
i got addicted to Lady Gaga's new song
'Bad Romance'.

And after Carol told me that her MV for the song
actually had meaning behind it,
i start to appreciate her MVs.

According to this literature expert here,
the MV was not about her relationship with a man,
but with the entire music industry..

It's a love-hate relationship,
you work hard to get attention from the big bosses up there,
who would bring your fame, and whatever you gain from it,
but at the same time, they need you too.

Watching her video was like reading 'The Handmaid's Tale'
all over again, the symbolic bed scene,
anti-Christianity symbols,
red coloured clothes at the end,
futuristic setting,
men-women divide.

I loved the book and now the video.

I loved her performance, and she's hot!

I loved her dance, and the entire concept.

I especially loved the melody of the song.

Lady Gaga, though whimsical and to some extent, odd and unconventional,
is a really great performer!

When she's speaking at interviews, she sounded soft-spoken,
but put her on stage, you get a fame monster.

Think i would be stuck with 'Bad Romance' for a while...

enjoying my holidays

enjoying my holidays

haven't been writing for two weeks
have been preparing for my US exchange trip
this coming January

so i took jabs, did my VISA (had to sacrifice my Vietnam trip :(),
booked my shuttle bus, bought air tickets,
seems like i have done a lot

but in fact i stil have a lot to prepare
- buying winter clothing and accessories, preparing medication,
all my bathing stuff etc etc

think i should write down a list of what to buy;
i keep forgetting.

on 12 to 15 dec, i helped my seniors with their fyp film -
a film on war, as assistant producer,
which means i helped them plan transport, buy food,
and assist with the shoot too.

on some days i had to wake up at 5 plus,
and rush to chinese garden with my other friends.

the sun was scorching on some days,
and i think i got a sunburn on my nose and cheek!

but everything was worth it,
it was really fun to see everyone working together as a team.

there were conflicts, definitely,
but when they saw it as team effort,
everyone compromised.

on the second day, shixiong's mum fainted,
which scared quite a lot of us,
and shixiong too.

hope she is well now..

and i hope their film will do well,
they have really good actors,
omg i haven't seen such a cool monk
and a fun refugee.

in real life they are funny and outgoing,
but lights on, cameras ready,
they are so into their characters
it was amazing!

In my post-exams days,
i played the piano.

Tried the tough piece 'Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence'
Xiuhui gave me.

WOW it was really quite tough eh.

And i played all my other favourite songs
- secret, nocturne op 9 no 2, tried playing Bitter Heart too!

Well, i'm so glad mummy signed me up for piano.

Watched 2012 with Jing Lun
Walked around town and
admired the pretty Christmas lighting.

3 December

Met Carol after her exams and went shopping! :D

Had dinner at Modesto's, Vivocity
and the pizza was damn good!

and then we had rich choc ice cream at awfully chocolate

4 December

Took Jing Lun to support Xiuhui at her choir concert!

It was the first time he attended a choir concert,
and i'm glad he liked it :)

The songs were great too Xiuhui!

5 December

Went out with my ST buddies
after such a long time.

It's gonna be Yu Ling's birthday soon,
so she treat us to a sumptuous meal at Ma Maison -
this French Japanese restaurant at Bugis Junction.

The beef rice dish was fabulous
Ann and i had escargots too
Ling and i had salmon with cream sauce

and then we had dessert at Max Brenner at esplanade

the Sofflege cake was damn good!

Then Pei took us to watch Belle Epoque,
a french recital at esplanade.

It's a story about French ladies who work at Maxim's,
a French restaurant,
and the lovers they meet.

It's my first time watching a french recital,
i loved the pink, purple and maroon dresses of the ladies
their coquettishness and romance

Today i woke up and lazed on my bed
looked out of the windows
admired the pretty white bright clouds
and just enjoyed that moment

oh dear i'm getting older

because i'm finding such simple pleasures of life
extremely great~~

Shall continue to R&R (rest and relax)
for the whole of my December holidays.

and i suddenly feel lost
like the my-soul-is-gone feeling.

still feeling a little bad
i just anyhow completed my papers
because it's time for a break.

hmmm but still, exams is over.

i think this is the standard contradictory feeling i always have after exams

like i have a list of one million things to do
yet i don't know where to start.

maybe i should start by taking a break

i had one of the toughest semesters in my life,
i think.

so many things happened this time round
- promises broken, confidence shattered,
too many things i took up to fill up the empty space (or so i think) of my life,
yet did not get them done on time,
lost the sense of belonging in school,
carelessness that killed,
weakness in character,
things lost (some found),
so many things that happened this time round,
especially in the month nearing November.

But nevertheless, let me count my blessings one by one,
and up till today, i am still feeling very happy
i got into my dream school and dream course,
and i shall always remember this every time i feel unlucky,
it'd always make me smile :)

When i speak to people
to tell me how much they

how badly they missed
their alma mater,
i could only try to understand
how they feel.

I have always visited, but not stayed.

When i thought everything was not gonna work for me,
just one day before submission of my trend story,
which is 30% of our grades,
a miracle happened.

I dropped by the community centre again,
and i found her - Ms Foo,
the person i have been trying to talk to,
for my article.

And so much is solved. :)

After school, Carol and i went to take photos of
Hide & Seek at 22B Hong Kong Street for my article.

It is a really cool fashion concept store
founded by Keith Png,
the local designer who designed Fann Wong's ROM wedding dress!

The shop is really cool, you should visit it before it moves early next year.
You may not buy anything, because they are rather expensive,
but you will be wowed by the entire concept of the shop!

a relaxing pizza place at Chijmes :)

I feel dumb

I tried to rush my InDesign assignment
but i can't stop my fingers from clicking onto
other blogs, other pages, and check out everything else
but my work.

I thought i could finish on time.

But i was wrong.

Worse thing was, i didn't check properly before submitting,
and i submitted the document three times :(

O M G

If i were the teacher, i'd just ignore the student,
pray hard sir is nice.

And the funny thing was, my most final submission still had errors.

But alamak, if i send in another one, i might get boycotted.

Late plus erroneous.

What else could be worse?

I always procrastinate,
thinking 'better late than never'
and that is why i spent a lot of time
slacking
before i force myself to start work.

Everytime i give myself a second chance,
i never stop, and i keep repeating this.

I think i need a teacher,
who can spank me upside down,
or maybe a dramatic event (like tonight)
that got me rethinking
my life as a horrible student.

But before i start nagging on,
i think i should spend this time doing something productive
- like blogging.

So off i go!

Fries

No idea why, recently i got addicted to fries.

I just had fries last Wednesday with grilled fish and chips for lunch,
and Thursday i had two packets, one in lecture and one after,
Friday, i had fries again at White Dog Cafe,
Sunday night i had it for supper,
and today i bought one packet after school,
and mummy bought another one for me too!

So altogether i had seven packets of fries in 6 days!

White Dog Cafe at Vivocity

After COM206 tutorial yesterday,
Carol and i went to Vivocity to shop!

Surprisingly we didn't find any clothes we liked or suited us,
but we had a fantastic lunch at White Dog Cafe

the cheesy chicken and fries meal was really yummy - tender chicken,
something i liked in contrast to the super hard-to-bite ones.

Then we explored Central at Clarke Quay,
it was so fun

i usually go to town, Plaza Singapura or Bugis,
feels so refreshing to step into this serene part of Singapore
on a weekday afternoon

seems like all the shops were just opened for the two of us!

Ever since i got into Communication Studies,
i know that i am a lucky girl.

No idea why
i frequently get what i wish for

I was once an atheist, believing that mankind can do everything
and achieve what they want.

But later i realised this wasn't true.

Some people try so hard, but still never get their wishes fulfilled.

So i became a free thinker, because i felt that there is the presence of an external force out there, that helps people get what they want.

Anyway, recently i have almost used my pink notebook from omy.sg, and wished someone would read my mind and get it for me (several of my notebooks that i use for reporting are free, hee hee hee).

And today, as i passed by Canteen A, a guy promoting Impresario 2009 handed out a puzzle, whereby we had to complete it and claim my prize.

I had to throw a ball onto the wheel-of-fortune-like thing, in order to get a prize.

I threw several times, and finally got number 8 (which is said to be one of the better prizes by Yi Qi's friend).

I asked her what the prize was,

it was a notebook, exactly the same pink one that i am currently using.

W O W LUCKY girl, i am.

Bye Bye Brownie!

Yesterday was the day my beloved baby Brownie died.

I haven't been playing with him
or patting him
since a long long time ago
when we kept him in the kitchen
because he started to pee and poop
everywhere.

And then he couldn't see,
he couldn't really hear.

He was getting old.

He was sixteen.

Though so, he struggled to stay alive.

When i was on my way to school, Mama called Papa
and told him Brownie died.

Papa rushed home and shouted, "Brownie!"
and he raised his head, though he immediately slept again,
his head too heavy for him to lift up.

Papa brought him to the vet.

But the vet said, we should put him to sleep,
because he would have died at night too.

And my Papa gave the okay.

He said sorry sorry brownie, sorry sorry brownie.

Brownie struggled to stay alive,
breathing hard.

But when the jab went through,
he slowly stopped struggling.

He said bye bye.

As the saying goes,
"All dogs go to heaven."

I believe Brownie was on his way there too.

He is such a lovely adorable great obedient dog.

He used to hold in his pee,
when we forgot to take him to his toilet
downstairs around a tree.

He never barked madly,
when we asked him to keep quiet
he would.

He never ran around the house the house wildly,
except when he was really young,
or after we gave him a bath.

Now even though he is not around anymore,
i still see him lazing on the floor,
resting with his head on the leg of my chair,
sitting by my side when i ate, studied,
watched me grow up,
listened attentively when i played piano..

Even though i haven't been playing or talking to him,
i know that deep within, i still loved him as much,
so much so much so much!

Brownie, hope you have already reached heaven,
with the other dogs.

Hope you can be my Puppy once again~~~

i went to celebrate lynn's 21st at her place tonight

So glad to see her ever since one year ago

she's studying in London School of Economics.

And she's so lucky

the road of lost innocence

I always borrow books from my friends,
but never read them.

But this time Hajar lent me this book by Somaly Mam,
the road of lost innocence,
and i was compelled to read it
because The Body Shop's most recent campaign
is to help stop sex trafficking of young girls and women.

Abandoned by her family when she was young,
she had been sold a few times, by her caretakers,
to pay for their debts.

She was then raped at twelve,
forced to marry at fifteen,
and then sold to a brothel.

Eventually she managed to escape,
and helped many others escape too.

She set up several help centres, such as AFESIP,
to look after young girls who suffer the same fate as her,
and were rescued.

In Cambodia, girls as young as five are sold into prostitution every day.

What got me thinking about the book is:
The Cambodians used to be known as kind hearted and caring,
working for the common good.

What happened?

What changed them?

And make them value money more than anything,
think of themselves and no one else.

Often the men are accused of being selfish and ignorant,
many of them thought having sex with minors
as young as four or five
will rid them of AIDS.

And many pimps do not care about the well-being of girls,
selling them to brothels overseas,
to make money for themselves.

Worse of all, they chain the girls
and abuse them
if they try to escape or are defiant.

Yes, indeed, the men involved in this sex trade is horrible,
but the root of the problem is actually the three decades
of horrors Cambodia suffered as a country.

The conclusion in the book goes,
"During the Khmer Rouge regime people detached themselves from any kind of human feeling,
because feeling meant pain. They learned not to trust their neighbours, their family, their own children.
To avoid going mad they shrank to the smallest part of a human, which is 'me'.
After the regime fell they were silent, either because they had helped cause the suffering or because this is what they had learned to do in order to survive."

And this is a vicious cycle.

The country suffer as a collective whole, and then the men continue inflicting their inner pain onto the new generation,
which goes on and on.

With all the corruption in place, it is hard for kind-hearted people like Somaly Mam to change much.

With some support from the UN and USA, she did manage to close down some small scale brothels,
but there are still bigger ones out there,
with the powerful people as the bosses.

We cannot do much too, besides donating some money,
and mot importantly, not engaging in the activities ourselves.

But at least, we do our bit.

And bit by bit, year after year,
the situation may change for the better.

Let's hope for a better world.

Music in harmony

On Sunday evening,
Xiuhui, Shauloon and i went to
support Alvin at his Chinese Orchestra concert
at Esplanade.

It was the very first time i read the introduction to the pieces,
tried to listen to the beautiful music
and also feel the emotions that the composers had
when they composed the music.

And i felt good.

I wasn't playing handphone games during concerts anymore,
sleeping, talking, or disrupting the other audience who wanted
to enjoy the music.

I am happy for this change in me :)

After yesterday's extremely fun DND on a ship,
i went to Jing Lun's DND too :D

Themed ELEGANCE WITH SIMPLICITY,
the DND was held at Orchard Hotel.
Stanwin (Xinhui's boyfriend) was the organiser for the event!

And this DND for NTU'S School of Computer Engineering and
School of Materials Science and Engineering was totally different.

Different food

Yesterday was not as confined a space as today's.

My friends and i could walk all around the ship
exploring dancing eating
whenever we wanted.

Today's event was like a wedding dinner.

We just sat down in a group of ten around a table,
ate good food, and watched the pageant contestants strut their stuff on stage.

Jing Lun's buddy Sheng Long won MR. ELEGANT title.

Towards the end of the party,
a Maths Professor's little son
tried to dance with the tap dancers from NTU CAC Club.

The little boy was so cuteee :)

And the door gift was adorable too - animal magnets.

I got a tiger and Jing Lun got a pup.

Others got reindeers and cows.

Well, it was interesting to crash parties of other schools
so you get to see the people from other faculties too.

I am always amazed how cartoons can touch the hearts of adults.

From the start of this cute movie,
i started crying!
HAHA

Not all cartoons are dumb.

At least Up is not.

When we were young,
we would have thought some parts are funny.

But as we grow up,
we realise these funny parts
are actually sad.

The dark cloud high up in the sky
always produces fierce animals
that bite the bird which dropped by
to send these animals down to earth.

Whereas the brighter clouds at the top of the sky
always produce adorable little animals -
puppies and kittens.

It is funny.

But take it to a higher level

Lotsa THANKS to the kind soul out there!

There is an old saying which goes like this
"You never know the importance of some things
till you lose them."

I never really took this seriously
till today.

I lost my phone

without even knowing how.

It was first day of school
i was so excited
so happy to see my friends

i kept talking away
happy to be with my circle of friends again.

When we went for lunch at the Quad,
i just did not take good care of my phone

and so i lost her.

I was trying my best to stay calm
look calm

at least when you lose things you don't fumble
like an idiot

you lose with dignity and grace.

HmMmm

But to be honest i felt so shitty within

WHERE WAS MY PHONE!

I wished this was just a dream.

My friends were really helpful - Jeremy, Marie, Candy, Edwin
and all my school mates who told me i was lucky
because no one picked up my phone

meaning it was safe, not stolen.

I went back to ACRC, the Quad - the canteen
and the engineering schools
to leave my names there
so they would call me back.

I met a student from Kenya called Hazel
who lent me her handphone
to call my phone...

And when i thought i was going to lose all hope again

she waved to me

and said the canteen auntie called her...

They found my phone.

Such a long story - and a long trying first day of school i had.

I promise to take extra care of my phone from now on.

And not to forget the kind soul
who returned my beloved baby back to me today~~

Last day at The Body Shop

Last day at The Body Shop

Today was my last day working at The Body Shop.

I felt a little sad.

Though it was one of the lowest paid jobs
i ever had,
my colleagues are one of the best
i ever had.

I would miss them a lot.

Well, there was a new campaign in the stores -
SOFT HANDS KIND HEART

to help ecpat raise awareness on sex trafficking
so hopefully it will stop or reduce in numbers in the future.

Even though i was supposed to sell the hand cream
to raise funds for the organisation,
seriously i did not feel that this could help much.

A lot of funds raised
may not even reach the kids being trafficked
in third world countries
if there was much red tape,
or bribery.

Well, but we should still hope for the better.

Or at least do our best to help them -
by not engaging in such activities.

Hope - the possibility of a better future
may encourage the kids to continue living~~

And so my last day was spent
writing words of support on the wall,
taking photos with Maisarah (my adorable in-charge)
and friendly Idah

i love working with all my colleagues at Wheelock~~

Will definitely say HELLO every time i pass by Orchard from now onwards

Today i paid a price for independence.

I tried to find the switch for the scanner
myself because i did not want to disturb my busy colleagues

and guess what?

I caused an electricity trip in the office

OH MY GOD.

And after two hours,
the technicians got it fixed.

for my colleagues' lost time...

It's JULY and here comes
Shau Loon and Xiuhui's birthdays once again!!

I was so excited about this day for so long :D

First stop was Vivocity Marche.

When i was young, my Uncle Yew Lee and Auntie Siew Fah
often took me to Marche at Suntec City
to dine.

And i loved rosti~~

We ordered lotsa food
and ate to our hearts' content tonight.

As we grow older,
food seems like a necessity
for us to be truly happy~~

Brenda was the very first friend/colleague
i got to know on my first day at work.

When she came in and sat down next to me,
i thought she was about my age,
because she looked really polished.

But i was stunned when she told me she was just 16.

W O W Amazing!

It was her summer break in her school in England,
so she came back to Singapore to try out working at our company.

She was born in Singapore, but moved to England with her parents later on.

And she speaks like Emma Watson, as in her accent.

It was so cool~~

And so we began working together

doing stuff like clearing old files from the shelves,
photocopy photos,
create contact images (if you know what that is!),
borrow items for shoots,
attended events.

And whew we had so much fun together!

But now three weeks is over
she gotta fly to Japan.

Well, though our time together was pretty fleeting,
i hope our friendship last :)

just returned to Singapore
for a short holiday!

And so we met up for a dinner on Monday night
before she flies back to Queensland~~

We met at Bugis
and had a really nice dinner -
delicious food, and not too bloated

Love this just nice feeling

Especially hate it everytime i eat till my tummy burst!

We had nice mushroom snack

and sweet Grandma Goes Nuts dessert!!

Manicure & Pedicure

Manicure & Pedicure

Today Elizabeth managed to persuade me to do
manicure and pedicure with her!

Though i am really broke.

I went for Express Mani & Pedi at Far East Plaza
which cost $10. :D

I usually go for nude colours,
but today i decided to be different.

So i chose

P U R P L E

and she chose RED!!

I feel like a princess
lying on the sofa
cuddling a pig
while the ladies helped me paint my nails

Oooh lala

I will definitely go for the full manicure and pedicure
plus foot and hand exfoliation, soak and massage
at $26 for students!

Feels so good~~~

Menu Hunting Night with Xiuhui

Thursday night Xiuhui and i hunted for
menus for her project at Bugis.

But it was really tough.

Just like filmmakers get a million types of restriction

it is the same in the business world.

BOO BOO~~

Why can't they help us students a little?

But anyway we still happily ate broccoli soup

I love her LUMIX so much
The shots are so firm so clean
it's so good~~

If i take some phototaking courses in school next time
i will definitely get myself a good LUMIX camera~~

And, i really admire Jiamin's adventurous guts
and her fine fingers

Oh my god she makes her own necklaces and earrings
i wanna try it too~~

Well she's gonna open a blog shop selling lovely bags and pencil cases

This morning i went for a shoot
with Chitra, Michelle and
Ken the photographer
at Hansgrohe.

It was a shoot featuring hair products
and Hansgrohe was really cool.
Really.

The furniture was really modern
new age
seeking the emotional attachment with the user
so much more than the mere original functional use
of furniture at home.

After much thought and consideration,
i've decided to buy this pair of pink heels
i saw every day at Great World City
when i have lunch with my colleagues.

I asked them to reserve it for me on Friday,
went back to get it on Saturday,
but didn't manage to get it,
and finally got it today!!! :D

The original price was $99,
and now there's 50% discount,
plus another 10% off for DBS/POSB card members
at Studio Tangs.

Seems like it is fated that i should be the owner of this
PINK HEELS!! :D

Running errands

My past week had been so busy.
But enjoyable and fruitful as always.

At work, i had to return clothes to Liang Court,
rush down to Paragon MUJI to look for organic clothing,
google for celebrity photos from gettyimages,
shelf magazines

Love getting out of office the most -
there are so many fun things to be done outside yo!

Similar to any other workplaces,
there are bound to be workers who always pull on glum glum dumb dumb faces every single day.

I met a rude woman at work last week.

But anyway, i definitely have to see her every day,
so i tried to be polite to her.

And actually she is okay.

We even spoke to each other today morning.

Just one word from her
and a smile,
but it meant so much more

but when Hajar bought Burger King for lunch yesterday,
i could not help, but helped her eat her fries.

And at night, my craving for fries grew more intense,

Today Brenda and i hunted for bedroom accessories
at Great World City for Lili, our nice colleague in office.

It's for a photo shoot on Monday!

Well we went to a few places - Laura Ashley, molecule, Lifestorey, Zone Denmark, iwannagohome!

There are really beautiful and creative furniture around that we seldom explore

I love Laura Ashley most - floral and sweet design, pinkish love :) :) :)

SANTA FE - My first dinner on board a ferry

Deepan is so kind, she let me attend this event on her behalf
to collect this file yesterday!

And so i came to Marina South Pier,
on board a ferry named Stewords Riverboat

and embarked on an interesting and satisfying Tex-Med food journey...

What we will be eating is Mexican food which is an Americanised version!

Ain't it cool! It will be my first time~~

I chose a seat near the window because the scenery was beautiful -
it was cold within the ferry, yet the fairly strong sun and cotton clouds
and the peaceful river out there made everything seemed Sunday-ish.

Relaxing Soothing Sleepy

I got a slight headache a while later though,
because of the rather strong waves hitting beneath the deck.

Fortunately i was led on a trail around the entire ferry - three storeys in total

a function room on the second level where church ceremonies were held every Sunday before lunch,

and a third storey with tables and chairs and a mini open kitchen for everyone to chill out.

Not too bad - we see the Singapore Flyer and the best skyscrapers of Raffles City from this place.

Stewords Riverboat was really cosy - brown soothing wood and comfortable chairs for families to bond over meals.

Quite a nice concept

But wait till you see the food!

The food blogger Leroy and writer taking shots of food!

The Santa Fe BBQ ribs were the best (to me) - tasty BBQ sauce with soft meat.

This is really good.

Loved the Ceviche (Seafood snack) - it's the snack on the left

Loved this starter soup too - the onions were soft, and the soup was really fine

Eric Saw, the founder of Stewords Riverboat
took us on a nostalgic boat ride to where he started out.

I thought the weather was really good - windy and refreshing.

After we returned back to the ferry,
we had dinner!

Omg the foodies whom i met on the trip REALLY can eat!

We got so much food - Gigantic beef burger

Combo Fajita (chicken and beef) (pronounced fa-hee-ta)

Buffalo wings

A refreshing salad with fruits and almond nuts!

Lucky i ordered this, it was really soothing for my throat after munching all meat meal

And last but not least, we had desserts!

WOW i stayed here from 4 to 10pm
and ate till my tummy dropped~~~

It was really fun to meet so many foodies
and really friendly and helpful hosts -
Eric Saw, and his kind friends!

I love the office

It feels good to return to an office
once in a while,
and enjoy the working silent amosphere,
with occasional chit chats,
friendly shouts,
tempting food (that i cannot eat)
in the refrigerator.

It feels good to return to a predictable schedule
nine to five
though you irk to get up so early in the morning,
but you know you can leave everything behind after six.

It just feels so good.

Another day of fun came by...

Visited Jia Yi who was working at Suntec City
tending to a Korean-imported ride called the Mini Rider.

The machine is able to simulate the effects of a real ride.

And so adventurous as we are,
we gave it a try,
though Jinglun said it was kiddy.

There were 4 settings to choose from
and we chose car race.

Whew we flew everywhere,
burst the mirror on my side,
went for repair,
returned on the track,
flew from a cliff to another road.

O M G

I could never have done that in my life man.

Walked around Suntec City and Marina Sqaure in search of a bag,
but to no avail.

Stepped into bookstores to locate a particular book Jinglun wanted to read.
We couldn't find it too.

Ended up reading on horoscopes.

Before dinner at Fish & Co. came

Finally one day OFF from Work

Have been sleeping really late ever since holiday started.

2am or even later.

And i feel so sleepy every single day.

But no idea why, i woke up at 8 plus this morning,

which was really early,

so i slacked my time away,

lazing on the bed,

having my breakfast happily,

flipping through Life!

and then went VIVOCITY in the noon

to retrieve my beloved phone back.

You won't treasure something till you lose it.

And this old saying indeed applies to me and my LG.

I miss my pretty flip phone

promise to treat it better from now on.

Recently i have been eating a lot.

like A LOT.

I ate my favourite fishball dong fen noodles with bean sprout

but i was not satisfied.

And so Jinglun and i had Long John Silvers.

Have been craving for fries, and more fries since yesterday!

WOOOO

Since i was broke after splurging at Forever 21 on Fathers' Day,

(when i was supposed to get a present for my dad),

i was only planning to spent my $25 F21 voucher

on something nice in the shop.

But i ended up falling in love with a silver watch which cost $33

because it was the best thing i could claim with my voucher.

Besides that, i liked a colourful scarf a lot too,

and i got it together with the watch.

Had to fork out like additional $24 to pay for these

(I borrowed the money actually)...

and i had to start eating cheap till i get my pay this month!

Watched Transformers in the evening too.

Megan Fox is indeed quite hot, but she was portrayed

more like a sex symbol than anything else.

But at least i didn't fall asleep like i did the previous

Transformer movie.

Hmmm today was a simple day

but i was so so satisfied

with my hard-to-come-by OFF DAY!

In the past, whenever i read about women declaring themselves bankrupt,
i'd think, "How dumb."

But recently i realised how easy it was for anyone to become broke,
living in such a material world
We are surrounded by shopping malls,
and constantly being bombarded by advertisements.

It really takes quite a bit of self determination and control
to stay within your limits.

Yesterday i was supposed to get Papa's present after work at Wisma.

Ended up stepping into Forever 21,
and spending more than $75,
to get the $25 voucher.

Then i realised the $25 voucher is only valid for merchandise with BLUE stickers.

There goes my savings.

Regrets

I have two major regrets in my life.

First, changing my piano teacher in Primary 6,
even though Gillian is probably the best teacher i could ever find.

She was too strict, and i was too immature.

All she wanted from me, was to do my best,

But i failed her.

Anyway my second regret,
is to quit ballet in Primary 3,
because i wanted to watch Return of the Condor Heroes
the Fann Wong and Christopher Lee version.

Oh my god.

And there went my sexy lean figure
and my grace.

The case of David

The case of David

Went Subordinate Court this morning
to sit in for a while and listen to the case of David Widjaja,
the NTU EEE student who stabbed his professor
earlier this year.

His parents did not believe that he pushed himself down the ledge.

That is why they decided to call for coroner's inquiry.

But all evidence seemed to suggest that,
though there was a struggle between the two men
in the professor's room,
David was the culprit in the entire murder,
and the professor only acted in self defence.

I sympathise David's parents - what do they get in return for the search for truth?

Nothing but detailed explanations of their son's death.

I wish them all the best.

Yesterday Xiuhui and i went to the National Museum
on a discovery journey...

The beauty of Verner Panton chairs!!

The stacking chair or S CHAIR
is one that is futuristic and happy looking,
without legs, but one can still sit on it comfortably.

Xiuhui likes Panton's works,
especially the vibrant coloured chairs,
as i expected, because she is always
the true optimist in life

nice bright colours never fail to make her happy!

As for me, I wouldn't have Verner Panton chairs
though the sofas were really really comfortable
and cosy :)

I love English chairs
because they make me feel like a Princess** :D

The Body Shop

I chose to work here because
i was interested to find out more.

And besides the pretty pink shirt looked tempting.

I was not a loyal fan of The Body Shop,
because the products seemed pricey.
And i did not have that much money.

So one day at work when the traffic was green,
i asked my colleagues,
"Are the products really that good?"

And it seemed that they were.
My colleague Hajar's sister Yati
told me that the products were mainly made of natural ingredients,
like organic beeswax (as opposed to the synthetic beeswax one of my shampoo contains),
olive, honey, passionfruit and so much more.

So i decided to give it a try.

I bought a few products too (there goes my one day's pay)!

OLIVE glossing shampoo and conditioner,
NAIL polishing block,
REFINING bath lily,
SCRUBBING towel,
and a WOODEN quill brush.

I hope i find my destiny in these products.

And as the tagline goes,
NATURE'S WAY TO BEAUTIFUL~~
